•TROUBLESHOOTING•
If you are experiencing problems running Cool Crafts check the following:
1) In the Finder, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen) and select "About this Macintosh." The "Largest Unused Block" should be at least 3,500 k. If it is below 3,500 k, make sure that no other applications are running. (You can be check this by clicking on the Macintosh icon on the top-right corner of your menu bar. "Finder" should be the only application listed.) If no other applications are running, you can turn on or increase your virtual memory.
Turning on Virtual Memory
In the Finder, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen), select the "Control Panels" and then select the item "Memory." On the pop-up panel, find the Virtual Memory section and switch it on. You will need to restart your computer to have this change take effect. (Note: You can change the size of the Virtual Memory in the box on the right side. Usually, the default setting is sufficient.)
2) Confirm that you have Quicktime™ (version 1.6.1 or later) installed in the Extensions folder (located in your System Folder on your Hard Drive). If the QuickTime extension has not yet been installed or if you have an older version of Quicktime installed, you can copy Quicktime™ version 2.0 from the Utilities folder on the Cool Crafts CD into your Extensions folder on your hard drive. Note: After copying QuickTime™, you will have to restart your computer for the QuickTime™ extension to be loaded. (To check the version of QuickTime™, highlight its icon in the Extensions folder by clicking on it ONCE and select "Get Info" from the File menu at the top of your screen.)
•IMPROVING PERFORMANCE•
FOR PARENTS OF YOUNG CRAFT MAKERS:
You may want to set the mouse speed to slow for younger children. To do this, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen), select the "Control Panels" and then select the item "Mouse." A panel will pop up with controls that allow you to adjust the mouse speed to "slow".
MEMORY ALLOCATION:
Cool Crafts requires at least 3.5 megabytes of free RAM to run properly. (In the Finder, go to the Apple menu and select "About this Macintosh." The "Largest Unused Block" tells you how much free RAM you have.) If you have more RAM available, you may want to allocate more to Cool Crafts to increase performance. (This will not affect your computer's memory configuration except for when you are running Cool Crafts.) To allocate more memory to Cool Crafts:
1) Click on the "Run Cool Crafts" alias on the desktop ONCE to select it. (Make
sure the program is not running.)
2) Once highlighted, select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Click on the "Find
Original" button.
3) Select "Get Info" from the "File menu". Note the box in the lower right-hand
corner called "Memory Requirements". Change the value of the "Preferred
size" box to 7,000 k or 8,000 k for optimum performance and close the
"Info" window.
3) To run the program, double-click on the "Run Cool Crafts" alias that is on the
desktop. (Make sure you have the CD-ROM inserted into your drive when
running the program.)
INCREASING NUMBER OF COLORS DISPLAYED:
Some monitors support more than 256 colors. Cool Crafts looks great in 256 color mode, but increasing the number of colors displayed will significantly improve the quality of the video clips.
To switch to thousands or millions of colors, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen), select the "Control Panels" and then select the item "Monitors". A panel will pop up that allows you to select the number of colors you want your Macintosh to display.
